How This Site Works

FlashlightApp.org launched in 2025 after one too many "free" flashlight apps demanded contacts and location access for a feature a browser can already do. The flashlight itself runs entirely client-side: turning the light on, changing color, running the strobe or SOS pattern all happen in your browser, with no server involved.

We use Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics, and it logs a small number of events, like accepting the strobe warning, the way most websites track feature usage. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown of what's collected and how to opt out.

The site is free to use, with no account and no paywall. We plan to run display ads to cover hosting costs rather than charge for access; that's the intended funding model going forward.

The articles section isn't outsourced content-mill filler. Each guide is written to cite specific mechanisms (the science pieces reference things like rhodopsin bleaching and cortisol response, not vague "experts say" claims) rather than being padded around a keyword. If you spot an error, the fastest way to get it fixed is the contact page.
